One Lovely Blogger Award

images1

Thank you so much,  https://followinghimbesidestillwaters.wordpress.com for nominating me for the One Lovely Blog Award! 🙂 I’m sorry it took me so long post it; I got stuck on working on other writing, projects and it took a while to come up with things say about myself.  Some may find that shocking, but I don’t like to talk about myself. 😄

7 Facts About Me:

  1. At the age of six, I convinced my mom that I wanted to become a Lutheran.  We left our Southern Baptist heritage, and I became a Lutheran pastor.
  2. I met my wife on the campus of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, IN.  She was there taking American Sign Language, and I was taking Summer Greek classes.  We initially started just to create a stir, or so we told ourselves.
  3. People would be shocked to know that I am actually an introvert.  When you think of an introvert, most people assume they are socially awkward.  However, the reality is that we just need to recharge our batteries away from the crowds.  We can function quite normally in society.
  4. I once stood in line for an hour to see the first Star Wars movie.
  5. Growing up I did not like writing. As a matter of fact, I nearly did not pass English.  What turned my English life around was one teacher in ninth grade that I had a crush on.  She got my attention and wanting to impress her, went from D-student to and A-student in High school.  I later found out she was dating a football player at the college.
  6. At the Seminary. I nearly quit.  It was not fun, and I felt this was not the career for me.  I gave God an ultimatum. “If you want me to be a pastor you need to send me a sign.” Never challenge God.  About two days later I received word that I was one of two students that had been selected by a congregation in Decatur, Il to get a $10,000 scholarship to cover my Seminary tuition.  How do you ignore that sign?
  7. I started blogging because I watched a Webinar and God placed the call on my heart to do this.  I had no idea why.  I didn’t know if what I would write would be received or ever read.  Every week the people who read my blog, remind me why God gave me this work to do and just how blessed I am to be a blessing to others.

This is my fourth award! I feel so honored. 🙂

Black Cat Blue Sea Award

the-black-cat-blue-sea-award-badge

It’s an honor and a privilege to be nominated for any award. I never heard of this award before, so it’s exciting to learn about something new. The Black Cat Sea Award is for bloggers who make an effort to write for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out or have been blogging for years, what is important is that you inspire your readers.  At the end of the day, we are all bloggers trying to share what inspires us the most. What motivates me is helping people see the love of God.

I was nominated by Shawna.  She has an excellent blog and would highly recommend you check it out: https://shawnasview.wordpress.com/category/blog-post/

The questions Shawna posted for me to answer are below.

My Questions:

1. If you could give a homeless person a gift, what would you give?

That is a difficult question.  I would not want to give a homeless person a gift that would not transform their life.  I would want to give them a gift that would allow them to regain their dignity.  I want to give a gift that would restore their hope.  And a gift that would allow them a chance to start fresh.  So I would give the gift of knowledge and the resources to transform their station in life.  I would also encourage them to pass that gift on to someone else in a similar situation.

2. If the world ended in one week, and you could write one last letter what would it say ( Summarize in one paragraph)?

Dear People of Earth,

Many of you are fearful and worried that the world is coming to an end.  Nothing I can say will stop those fears.  But I can point you to something that many of you have ignored for far too long.  The love of God, in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ.  He makes you one promise that will give you hope this last week. “I will never leave you, nor abandon you.”  We don’t know how the world will end, but we are aware we never face death alone.  Fear not! He is with you.  See you on the other side.

Your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

3.What means the most to you money or love?

Money is temporal.  It is nice to have.  Money can make the day to day existence a little easier, but I would rather have love.  Love bring life.  Love invigorates me.  Love gets me up in the morning and motivates me to strive for greater heights.  I would take love over money every day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.

(I was nominated by Joanna Lynn her blog is http://dippingintotheheart.com/the-facade/ for the 3 Quotes, 3 Days challenge. Her blog is for anyone, but especially for those who come from a place of abuse or still suffer the ongoing negative “tape recordings” that someone spoke into your life. She writes from a Christian worldview because she believes that nothing is possible without Jesus. Stop by and check out her site. I accepted the challenge because it sounds like fun and fits into my Words of encouragement posts as well. For the challenge, I am to nominate three people a day to the challenge and a quote (or three) a day. Here are my nominees:

“In any dispute or disagreement where the outcome has winners and losers. In the end, everyone is a loser. Reconciliation should be the end goal not one side getting their way.”- Keith Haney

In this election season, there has never been a more significant statement.  If we can’t come together as a nation, as a people, no matter what candidate wins, we are all losers.

Now on with the challenge.  Here is the quote for today.

“We don’t always understand while we are in the moment the purpose for the events in our lives. Yet none of those events are without a purpose.”- Keith Haney

There are moments in our life where the challenges and the trials seem overwhelming even more that we can bare.  Realize we are never alone.  God makes us this promise in Isaiah 41:10, “fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Versatile Blogger Award

versat-blogger-award

I was honored to be nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award. First, of all versatile-blogger-award I love the name. Everyone says, “Find Your Niche! If you want to monetize your blog, the first thing you have to do is find something people want to buy, and find your niche.  I don’t write for fame and fortune.  I write because I love to write.  It gives me joy.  It allows my creative spirit to run free.  So I write about whatever God places on my heart.  I want people to read my blog and grow deeper in their understanding about the things of God.   If I did make some money I would take my wife on that trip to Europe we have always planned.   I really enjoy doing this so it doesn’t feel like it’s another job. So, my blog is about how God speaks to me. I’m a Christian, a father, a pastor though not serving a congregation at the moment, a son, and a brother.  I write about whatever inspires me, and I feel may inspire others.   I would say I do have a niche, Faith. However, that is a broad enough topic that  I guess that makes me versatile!

I am touched that I was nominated by http://www.handsonworkingmom.com. Her blog is awesome, She writes about topics are interesting.  And as she would say not just for mommies. Check it out. Keith is a Pastor and isn’t afraid to tackle the tough topics, including racial tension, marriage from a biblical perspective, and challenges within the church. I find his posts to be inspiring, courageous, insightful, and thought-provoking. The Light Breaks Through – Learning to Live Life in God’s Grace.

To give you a sample of her writing here is how she described my blog.

Please check out these fabulous blogs written by some genuine and lovely people.  Part of the reason I am sharing this award is not to self-promote that borders on ungodly.  But to give you a chance to discover others who are working hard to be a blessing to the world with their blogs. Here are some for you to check out.

Rev. Dr. Kevin Wilson a friend of over 20 years. http://www.kevinwilson360.com

This blog is an online community for leaders of churches and Christian nonprofits who are engaging in intentional change. It is a safe place for risk takers. for parish pastors trying revitalize congregations and church planters starting from scratch. It is an energizing place for social entreprenuers and community architects.

For the past 30 years I have served in a wide range of roles in for-profit and nonprofits. I founded, worked on staff and served as a board member of para-church organizations. As an ordained minister I have served as a missionary-at-large, church planter, senior pastor as well as mission and ministry facilitator. For the past decade I have served on the staff of the Ohio District, Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod in facilitator and executive roles.

My posts follow two tracks. One focuses on leadership, discipleship and coaching while the other on organizational start-up, development and revitalization.

The Tony Burgess Blog https://tonyburgess1969.net

On his blog he says,  “I chronicle and curate the sacred, serious and silly things in my life. This is my online voice where I share what is in my head and on my heart with people far and wide.”

Giggles and Tales https://simpledimplesite.wordpress.com
Giggles and Tales debuted to enable me document some of my daily quirks and twists. I am here to pen down memories that stream into my mind refusing to let go. And the echoes from the corners of the world as well as my poetic instincts. Life has been benevolent and has afforded me the opportunity to experience diverse cultures through my vast travels. These different cultural shocks will reflect in my writings.

Sunshine Blogger Award

sunshine-blogger-award

It is affirming when people recognize you for your work. This week I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger award. The nomination of the came from https://intentergy.com That made my week! One of my goals for my blog was to be a place where people feel encouraged, and the light of Christ’s love shines through.  So to be nominated for the Sunshine award that honors you for bringing light into people’s lives is a terrific affirmation of my intentions. Thank you!

The objective of the Sunshine Blogger Award is to share about yourself and nominate other bloggers who you believe to deserve the same honor. Here are my responses to the awarded questions:

(1) What do you love about blogging?

What I love about blogging is the impact it is having in the lives of my readers.  I started blogging because people would ask me have your written that sermon down or is the bible study in print somewhere? Sadly, the response was, “No, it is all in my head.”   After some Godly inspired wrestling I launched this blog in January.

(2) What is your favorite song?

My favorite song changes with my mood and what God is doing in my life at the time.  At this moment it is “Word of God Speak” by Mercy Me

(3) What is your dream job?

My dream job was to be a pastor.  I have done that and still enjoy sharing God’s word with people.   My life is entering a new phase now, and I would have to say that my dream job would be to become an author.  That may happen at the beginning of 2017.

(4) If you could exchange your life with anyone for one day who would that be and why?

I would love to be a baseball player.  With one game to play.  Game seven of the World Series.  I would love to be at the plate with a chance to be the hero or the goat.

(5) Your secret romantic fantasy?

My dream would be to touring Europe with my wife.  We started learning French in preparation for this journey.  Now I am dabbling in German.

(6) What are your habits that you hate most or want to change them?

Worry. I wish I were better about not allowing that emotion to infringe on my ability to experience joy. The simplest things weigh me down. I wish I were better at just letting go.

(7) Your most embarrassing thing that happened to you?

In the 80’s in High School at the height of the Jeri Curl craze.  I decided to join the greasy hair party.  Unfortunately, I had my mom put the wrong chemicals in my hair.  So instead of getting a Jeri Curl I got my hair straightened.  I looked like James Brown.  On top of that during that time I had got my first driver’s license.  So for four years I had a James Brown photo to live down.  My classmates called me “Slick Rick.”

(8) Your favorite color?

My favorite color is everything purple.

(9) Your motivation in life?

To help as many people as possible in their faith walk.

(10) Craziest thing you would like to do in life that you were not able to do?

Climb a mountain.  I did go hiking in the mountains for the first time two years ago.
