Why does race matter so profoundly for health? David R. Williams developed a scale to measure the impact of discrimination on well-being, going beyond traditional measures like income and education to reveal how factors like implicit bias, residential segregation and negative stereotypes create and sustain inequality. In this eye-opening talk, Williams presents evidence for how racism is producing a rigged system — and offers hopeful examples of programs across the US that are working to dismantle discrimination.

Excellent! Thank you so much for sharing. We must also add native Americans into this mix. Especially those that live on the reservation. All Americans should be appalled at the kind of living circumstances they bear.

Our experience here is quite different. The majority here in our section of this city are Hispanic followed by Asians (mostly Nepali). It gives us a great choice of food, friends, languages and churches. Maybe we as Christians ought to think less of ourselves as belonging to one ethnic group or another and more about belonging to God’s family. We each have one small part of Christ’s inheritance but only together can we be the body of Jesus Christ to our neighbors. Blessings my brother and keep sharing!
